Speaking Different Languagges, Review : Men Are from Mars, Woman Are from Venus.

This week I read a very inspiring book, the book was written by John Gray Ph. D. and the title is Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. The main idea in this book is about some differences between men and women. These differences include the way of thinking, problem solving, the style of language used in communication, even differences in expressing emotions. On the other hand this book not only explains the differences between men and women but also gives a lot of suggestions to overcome the problems that arise from differences.

I will explain one of the differences between men and women that have been explained in this book, that is Speaking Different languages. In chapter 5 you will learn how men and women commonly misunderstand each other because they speak different languages . You will learn how men and women speak and even stop speaking for entirely different reasons. Women will learn what to do when a man stops talking, and men will learn how to listen better without becoming frustrated.

The difference language used in communication makes men and women misunderstand. Not language differences such as Indonesian and English, they still use the same language but with different meanings. When they speak, the expressions of men and women are same but often with different emotional connotations and emphases that make them easily misinterpret each other. For example when a woman says “I feel like you never listen”, the word "never" should not be interpreted literally but that is a way for a woman to express the frustration she feels. Another example that we often hear from a woman in daily life is the word “I'm okay” but if you are a man, never consider a woman is really fine, because actually in the word "I am okay" means that she is not in a good mood. Then don't just ignore her, or something that isn’t good will happen between you. Really ! :D

Basically a woman wants to be listened to and cared for, you should not only be a good listener but also try to better understand how to emphasize the words she says. Conversely, when a man is frustrated he will prefer to be silent. It's best to leave him alone because it's a natural thing for a man, because he will feel better after calming himself. All the problems that arise from every difference can be overcome by understanding each other, I think this book is very good for understanding these differences. Then try to read it.
